/Length/ 40 minutes
/Date/ September 2003
/Collaborators/ Josh Russell, Civyiu Kkliu, Ilya Monosov (Live Improvised Music) |
"Color & Sound" was a collaborative live improvised video and music performance. It explored the relationship between and involvement of color and sound, and their impact on each other. The video projected in the performance was simple color rather than scenes, objects, or representations.
The collaboration was a new one, formed specifically to create a performance for the "Interchange" event. I collaborated with three musicians, Josh Russell, Civyiu Kkliu, and Ilya Monosov. They performed live improvised music; I performed live improvised video. At times the music led the video... at times the video led the music.
The colors came from the real world rather than being created within a computer graphics program. I sought out colors in the real world, and videotaped them to use as source material. Texture became as important as color. I was seeking to use colors that people could recognize as having a connection to the real world, rather than completely abstracted into an academic presentation of "color".
