CalArts MFA Thesis Exhibition 4/3/06 - 4/7/06: My thesis show included installation/wall drawings and large-scale drawings on paper which explored ideas of communication, the inefficiency of language, and the frailty of human interaction.

"These Things I Say Out Loud" was my MFA Thesis Exhibition, completed in April 2006. It is a site-specific installation/series of wall drawings. A series of four wall drawings of telephone and power poles surround the gallery, and connect to each other via telephone wire. In the shadows of the wires, text slices across the gallery floor. The text, appropriated from song lyrics, explores how we communicate, how we attempt to make ourselves understood, regardless of whether the message ever gets through.
Much of my work explores this territory of the attempt at communication - and the simultaneous frailty of language, and our repeated attempts despite language's inefficiency and tendency toward failure. This duality of human experience particularly intrigues me - how we repeatedly attempt to communicate, how we continue to seek connection through language, despite the fact that as often as not our attempts result in failure or misinterpretation.
